I'm confused about Escape from New York
I am a big fan of The Thing. I loved the eeriness and the feeling of being on your toes, completely don’t know what to expect next. The anxiety was more thrilling than the abundant bleeding, although the latter did amplify the experience. Escape from New York has the same director John Carpenter and main star Kurt Russell. But the title leaves little to your imagination. He’s escaping from New York, and trust me, he will.

Seriously, where was the fallen statue of Liberty head in the movie
I kept waiting for a surprise. Maybe a bloodlusting monster would come straight out of Manhattan. Or maybe the president has some bigger trick up his sleeve. Or maybe the president is a blood lusting monster. In that sense the movie subverted my expectations. Ha - No suprises here. It gave me a chuckle at the end when Plissken swapped the tape, but that was not a satisfying ending. Did he sit back and laugh in his prison cell while the world burned into a nuclear hell hole? Give me that anarchist delight and don’t leave me hanging. It almost is quite fun that the movie just pulled a fusion technology out as a plot device, as something completely opposite of what you can explain properly in a cassette tape and can’t easily reproduce. I actually like that, but when I think about it, the idea of using destructive weapons to threaten each other is not that different from gorillas beating their chest. Except we are little ants on the chest easily smashed.
Well, I agree that Snake Plissken’s outfit is awesome, no wonder he did give inspiration for certain video game characters. I can’t help remember how Kurt Russell showed a bigger array of emotions in The Thing though and that made his character way more interesting. The movie’s aesthetics gave me Deja Vu for the original Blade Runner. While Blade Runner makes you look forward to every turn of the street like a tourist, EFNY didn’t have that effect on me.
I’m glad to report that the other NY-titled movie that I watched this year, Gangs of New York, is amazing. Please check it out.
